I seldom check the activity of my SPG account, but today I found that there were two activities that redeemed once 128 pts and the other 983 pts, both with the description "SPG AX DEFAULT". I haven't redeemed any points for over a year by now. Does anybody know what this might be? It seems like something AMEX did.

For the first -128 points, I found that my AMEX SPG card had a -$128 balance due to a refund activity in that month. The second one I really don't see any refund.

AMEX takes back pts if you got a refund after the billing cycle closes?

Surely you recognize the massive potential for fraud if they did not.

SPG does..and so do any rewards cards I have ever had.... I think the only thing that would cause a problem is if you didn't have any to remove! I wonder what would happen then!!!

Surely for the benefit of everyone in this forum, someone needs to test this out and report back with their findings... not it.

I believe I have heard that if you have a neg balance and close the card
they will charge you for the miles.

That is ceertainly explicit with AMEX where you can "borrow" miles,,
like 15,000 is my borrowing limit as shown online...

Just got 10k points today thanks to "SPG AX DEFAULT"! No activity on that card for some time.
