In case you're wondering why AA chose the massive flag motif on the tail of the new livery, this is the reason. They feel like they're the flag carrier of the USA. That point was repeated a couple times quite poignantly by executives at the event AA hosted on Friday at JFK to celebrate the new livery. From Tim Ahern, Vice President of New York & International: An interesting move, I'd say. Not the one I'd make. Also, as part of the event I got to take a bunch of photos of the plane and get up close with it. The logo part is even better in person, I think. The tail is still something I'm not a fan of, though I do think it accomplishes their stated goal reasonably well. Finally, at the event they were giving away posters of a rendering of the livery flying over a mountain somewhere. I grabbed a few. I'll give one away to someone here on MP who wants one; just leave a note in a reply here. I'll choose someone in a week or so, I suppose. The other two will be given away on my blog to comments there, so feel free to toss you name in the ring there, too. More photos from the even in my gallery here. Or in the gallery of AirlineReporter here.
