Wow! Who would have thunk that an earthquake on the other side of this planet would cause
property damages in millions of $ (so far) in California?

Crescent City, California USA (small city near Oregon state border)
After first wave hit: harbor has been destroyed, 35(+) boats crushed.
More 8.1 ft waves are expected in few hours.

Santa Cruz, California USA (about 60 miles south from SFO)
I am watching live pictures on TV.
Right now we are waiting for more water surges to come in and cause even more trouble.

So far - mounting damages to the harbor,
some boats have been destroyed and are sinking,
many have broken loose, few floated out to sea,
dozens of vessels smashed against each other, creating several big pile-ups

Coast Guard and Harbor Patrol are trying to catch the run away boats

    Hundreds of onlookers snapping pictures

When you first posted this my immediate reaction was, "Who stands near the coast snapping pictures when there are tsunami waves?"

A minute ago, I heard on the news that the Coast Guard is searching for a man who was swept out to sea by a wave while he taking pictures. [IMG]

    1. Thrill-seekers.
    2. Paparazzi.
    3. Amateurs hoping to make a buck by selling photos.
I blame TV networks for this though - they've been repeating over and over today:
"If you have pictures - send them to us NOW!!!"

Yeap, they are talking about it here on local TV.
3 people went in, only 2 came out.
Authorities have been searching for nearly 3 hours now.

I live near the gulf coast in Alabama and am always amazed at the Idiots who head toward the water when a hurricane is headed ashore. I guess they are hoping to see Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel reporting on location.

There was some damage to roads and homes on the Big Island of Hawaii and less than that on Maui. Oahu was not affected.

What an idiot! Why can't people listen to the warnings from the Coast Guard and police. They are trying to save lives!

But the main question is: did the recovered camera have any good pictures?
