Washington Post awakening from a prolonged period of slumber and actually producing a story on the sorry state of US air travel. Airfares in Europe are dirt cheap and frequently fiercely competitive and if that broke out here, there would be a lot of hubristic crappy legacy aircarteliers in Bankruptcy Court. WAPO also making a mockery out of Airlines for America's favorite smokescreen that airfares are lower when adjusted for inflation (in a nation where multi decade wage stagnation is never mentioned.)

Not a totally trustworthy story however as they refer to jetblue and southwest as "low budget" carriers. They are in fact low cost to operate carriers which frequently charge stratospheric fares that even exceed the legacies. Also no mention of the cartel and the corrupt impact of lobbyists who own our government.

Also left out the part about the nefarious role of capital management and the ludicrous compensation of hundreds of millions for airline brass. I

Flew local in both Asia (Japan) and Europe.

Didn't find fares to be all that much cheaper.

Less crowded but not incredibly cheaper.

Basic product was however in better condition.
