I had a one-night stay here on business in mid-September 2013. Caveat: this was my first stay at a W hotel, and I'm not sure I 'get'/like what the brand is about.

    Good

    Stylish property, great views.
    Friendly and very enthusiastic staff.
    Well-designed comfortable rooms.
    Casino next door.
Excellent full breakfast as platinum amenity.

    Bad

No upgrade, no lounge. Basically no platinum recognition beyond the amenity (although the breakfast was a very nice touch).
    Painfully overpriced minibar/room service.
Remote location so no restaurants or shops nearby.
Only one small bottle of complimentary water in the room.

    Overall

This is a stylish hotel in a picturesque location but there are much better options for platinum members in Seoul. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I was looking to spend a lot of time in the casino or had an unlimited budget.

Do I recall correctly that this property offers a complimentary hotel shuttle to/from a subway stop?

It does! My bad. Was a bit hasty posting the review before fully checking out...

There is a shuttle that runs every ten minutes to the nearest subway stops, that do have shops/restaurants. Apologies to the W Walkerhill ;)

thanks for confirming, I couldn't remember exactly from when I did my research for leisure travel to Seoul (a destination I feel is very overlooked by the west for a leisure trip). Out of the SPG properties in Seoul, I settled on the Westin Chosun due to it's central location. There was something about the Walkerhill area that made me shy away from it, besides the W there is also a Sheraton in the Walkerhill area. I stayed at the IC COEX and thought the area was bland compared to Westin Chosun. One can get a very cheap rates on Priceline for Seoul hotels, I paid a pittance for the Marriott Renaissance, not the greatest location (which is very key being in Seoul), as there was a red light district behind the hotel.

The Sheraton and W are connected in Walkerhill. I enjoyed the Westin Chosun (see other thread) but for me the real gem was the Sheraton D Cube. Fantastic hotel :D
