Interesting, just read this post by Lucky :

    http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/09/29/vote-hilton-hhonors-next-promotion/

HHonors is letting you vote on their next global promotion, which will be valid for stays between November 1, 2014, and January 31, 2015.

The promotion choices are as follows:
    • Double points — earn double points starting on your second stay
    • 1K bonus points — earn 1,000 bonus points every night Thursday through Monday
    What's more interesting :

Hilton Honors is prioritizing votes differently based on your HHonors status:

    • Votes by Diamond members count as four
    • Votes by Gold members count as three
    • Votes by Silver members count as two
    • Votes by Blue members count as one

hmm people who stay at expensive properties or for long times will want the double points and people who stay at inexpensive properties or for short times will prefer the 1000 points. By asking people to vote hilton is kind of guaging the spending patterns of the people who vote... interesting

That is an interesting observation but only if assuming that the exclusion list do not change regardless of the promotion being rolled out.
They may be hotel that have no issues filling the rooms between Mondays through Thursdays so they may opt in for that promo but opt out of the Double Points promo.

It would be even more interesting if one can see the exclusion list if the promotion is double points (from 2nd stay) and the exclusion list if promotion is 1000 points per night for Thursdays through Mondays and then vote accordingly.

All said and done... if your stays are on 1 list (exclude) and not the other, lesser promo points is still better than no promo points right? :)

I'm thinking this could be a way for Hilton to look at how people perceive their brand and might impact how they choose to market themselves later on rather than reflecting on what they are doing for directly with this promo.. I do think your thought is an interesting way to look at it as well, and I certainly agree than some points is better than no points!

Without knowing if the NON-participating properties list will be changed for the new Q4 promotion, it leaves us "six of one, half a dozen of the other" without a real choice, because you'd also have to factor in your planned stays at both participating and the ones that won't be in the new offer. That changes the playing field for either choice.

It would be really great if they ultimately offered us both options and let people pick which one they wanted when it goes live next month.
