Where does Marriott figure in all of this?...

The vote that would get 100% member participation is whether (a) they are delighted about the SPG/MAR Rewards merger vs. (b) they are pissed/disappointed/depressed by it.

Is there even an SPG Life left to vote for? Or is this one last burst of glory as the flames rise on the funeral pyre?

It's been a great run and I can't imagine having another relationship like the one I had with SPG these last years, but it seems it's over :(

Is not the Freddies about the program as it affected you for the past year(s)?
And that begs the question has it changed recently? or are you just indulging in the rampant speculation one finds so prevalent around these parts? (encouraged by a not too subtle dose of trolling )

The relevance to the acquisition of SPG by Marriott should be self-evident, I think: a first place Freddie Awards finish would be wasted on a program that won't be around to capitalize on it...

As an FYI, what's being voted on now, is what the programs delivered to their members last year. Of course, the announcement of the merger happened late last year, so many will unfortunately be influenced by that.

That was understood. The point I tried to make above is: let's say SPG wins the award and then they disappear as a loyalty program, what good would that do anyone? An award that goes to the bottom of the drawer for eternity is a waste. Whereas, e.g., if Marriott wins -as is likely -- they can immediately do press releases and use the award in future ads. SPG won't have that luxury if they disappear...

It is election season. Perhaps the programs should take a cue from some candidates and remind us what they have done for us. Eg, Hyatt: we lost your credit card and then we shut down our website for a long time in order to not fix any issues that existed before. Oh, and he other guys are all liars and one of them is not even eligible to run in this country because they were born in the UK.

Kind of my point. By far the biggest thing SPG did last year was announce its imminent demise ;)

I'm partly annoyed with SPG for not being more transparent about what is going on, and by carrying on as though nothing has changed (has it? I don't know).

Sort of stressing yourself out about a completely unrelated topic?
Have you stayed at a SPG property since the announcement? If so can you relate to me one single tt occurrence during your stay that you can pinpoint as being directly related to the pending merger/buyout?
I certainly have not seen one single thing.

Has the merger even got regulatory approval? How transparent do you expect them to be?

Tell me that you and the other "concerned" member(s) are not worrying that the Star-Wars movie due for a October 2016 release will win best picture of 2015. :D

That is the denial phase of a merger...

As of now, nothing has changed, and until the merger is approved there are limits to how much starwood and Marriott can coordinate.

History is important. There are plenty of programs who have merged/been discontinued that has won Freddies/Been nominated for Freddies. SPG still exists and will for a while longer. At this point, no one knows what the future holds

The millions of people who are now voting, are asked to give us their views on what the programs delivered in 2015. The great leadership team of SPG and their staff worked hard last year to deliver good benefits to their members. And they should have the opportunity to be awarded for it.

I got that, but my point remains. Awards are wasted on a program that cannot benefit from them in the future...unless getting the Freddies would enable SPG to perform a successful Lazarus Act by convincing Marriott of the tremendous value of the SPG program for millions of its loyalists and, thus, to spin it off into a standalone enterprise separate from their current programs.
This, on the other hand, is a winning argument. Sort of like a consolation prize for a once-dominant loyalty program and its great managers...a farewell present. ;)

And he's going to sue them, once he is done with Cruz.
