Volkswagen turns off Blackberry email after work hours

    Volkswagen has agreed to stop its Blackberry servers sending emails to some of its employees when they are off-shift.

    In other words, unionized workers are allowed to have a life, but salaried workers are still chained to the company 24/7. :D

    I really wish my company would do this, though unfortunately I know my department would be one of the last to have our blackberries turned off. Usually takes me about an hour to go through my emails, even on a day I'm not working.

    I use the Blackberry's silent times and somehow seem to be the only person on the planet who has the ability to NOT LOOK AT THE DANG THING in the evenings and on weeknends. <shrugs>

    This isn't out of the ordinary with hourly workers here in the US. It's not atypical to disallow mobile device or external access to email outside of work hours to protect against claims of working (while reading mail) and not being on the clock.
