Virgin Atlantic has launched an innovation that will allow passengers to store boarding passes on the iPhone and iPod touch.

The company is reportedly the first UK-based airline to provide boarding cards using Apple's Passbook application, which lets users store forms of mobile payment such as coupons, tickets and store cards.

Passengers using the new service can have their pass sent directly to their phone when they check in online, removing the need for any paperwork at the airport.

The document is stored as an industry standard barcode which can be scanned at departure gates at Virgin Atlantic's UK departure airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester.

I thought they'd have had that a long time ago. All my normal airlines have been doing taht for some time. Passbook integration is nice.

Interesting that you say "all your normal airlines" have had passbook integration for some time considering the actual adoption pace has been reasonably slow.
