I just hope everyone gets a chance to use up their BMI miles before they get out of *A!

Hope we would have a spend down period. But there is going to be a rush to the "door" to cash in. I suspect availabiity will be interesting to say the least.

Similar to CX availability thanks to BA's actions.

I think Virgin would be a nice edition to *, especially if they can pick up BMI and use them as their intra-Europe/ME airline.

Why does this make me nervous? Probably because the history of airline mergers between long-haul and short-haul operators is littered with failures. Anybody remember PanAm/National? This is different, but Virgin has not had a stellar record with domestic operations anywhere, either, although regulatory control issues did play a significant part elsewhere.

its a nice way to pick up some cheap gate space throughout the UK in hopes of creating a bigger feeder system to go against BA/AA. As the ol saying goes, NO WAY BA/AA.

Virgin Atlantic in the same alliance as UA and competing with them SFO-LHR and LAX-LHR? Not sure UA is ready to sign off on that. If you get the same amount of miles no matter which carrier you fly I could see UA losing west coast market share. I'd even fly Virgin Atlantic before I'd set foot on UA if I could get miles to drop into my UA account.

Would this automatically bring along the domestic Virgins? Australia, America, etc?

I'd love to be able to use my US miles and fly nothing but Virgin flights.

If VS goes to the Star this could mess up any potential traction that Virgin Australia could join SkyTeam.

However, Branson has reiterated many times that they are separately run, so the door is slightly open for the Virgin airlines to join separate alliances, while concurrently having a mini Virgin alliance.

    Ahhh the speculation game....

Virgin Australia seems to have more track toward Star right now with their latest partnership with AZ. Skyteam is mainly for DL, but with enough Star feed and Branson being out to get BA, he could push them to the stronger alliance.

singapore air is going to have a big say anyway. big stake in vs.

it could create an interesting bridge if one of the virgins goes star A and the other one goes OW. would it ever be feasible to have something where miles could be transferred between alliances......unlikely, but why not. virgin australia would become the worlds largest ff program.

exactly, if VA was a bridge between alliances, I would think everyone would want to somehow credit miles to VA for use on multiple alliances. doubt that will EVER happen!

Don't forget NZ also runs LAX-LHR; they would be my first choice in carriers on that route.
