Hi everyone, another flight review, this time Virgin Atlantic Upper Class from Hong Kong to Sydney on the A340-600.

Click the link to see the full video review (HKG Clubhouse, Cabin, Catering and Service)

I was impressed by the funky vibe and open cabin, but not by the catering or hard product. Service was personal (from British Crew, HKG based crew were rather cold), but the serving of dinner (on a night flight) took over three hours, which only left a very short time to sleep.

Check out my past airline reviews (all premium)

Let me know what you think in the moments below [IMG]

Nice job! I particularly like that you showed the Clubhouse (which looked great) and the onboard bar! Was that really a code share on NZ? If so, I wonder if that means an avenue for booking Star Alliance awards?

It was a codeshare, but I actually booked my ticket through CO (before the agreement gets terminated)

I have a VS HKG-SYD J flight booked in a few months, using CO miles. I'm wondering if VS provides the ETA for a US citizen heading to SYD.

I'm guessing -> no. But go to the Australian embassy website and you can do it electronically (hence, er, Electronic Travel Authority): http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/

    Wow. Great videos.
...and I always thought Cathay's The Wing/Pier was "THE" lounge in HKG.....might have to rethink that....

I do like the Pier/Wing, but service at The Clubhouse didn't seem hurried, and people took time to talk and recommend things about the lounge...

The menu was good, but I think it is somewhat limited due to the size of the lounge... I recommend going to the lounge before the flight from LHR lands, then you get the works, without any crowds.

...no worries. I should think most Londoners would have had their fill at the Clubhouse at Heathrow....

Interesting shots of the "in flight bar." Seems kinda' cool, but is it more "gimmick" than "function"?

I appreciated the design, but on a night flight, it wasn't really functional, plus crew used the area to assemble meals... I expect during a day flight it might be more useful, but on a night flight (especially with crew running around like headless chickens), more galley.

....exactly. And I'd think it'd be really noisy if you're one of the passengers seated near it trying to sleep.

It's one thing I've liked about BA's "Club Kitchen", is that it's not in the middle of a passenger area. Was on a daytime flight to LA (from London) recently, and several pax were there, each of us enjoying a good laugh a few nibbles and drinks, wihout disturbing any of the other passengers. But, from the review vid, the Upper Class bar does look cool.

Yes, but it still costs $A20, and doesn't disclose that at the beginning of the application process. Only on the final screen, when you've entered everything. I've had the ETA provided at no cost by TA's and by airlines when flying Biz class before.

Guy Betsey has generously done free ETAs before, and I think I got one from United when flying Biz a number of years ago.
