I posted elsewhere on Friday morning about a Virgin America job posting for an ETOPS program manager which apparently was first posted sometime around March. Now it sounds like VX is in the process of actually getting ETOPS approval, based on a post on NYCAviation yesterday:

Might be nice for UA to get a bit of competition at SFO on the Hawaiian routes.

They already have plenty of competition if you don't mind flying out of OAK or SJC- Alaska.

I know, and I do mind. :) Both are significantly less convenient for me to get to.

There's also Delta and Hawaiian on SFO-HNL and then Alaska and Hawaiian on a bunch of SJC/OAK-Hawaii flights. Seems like there's actually already plenty of competition.

Well, cheer up. With today's announcement, come autumn you will be able to fly SCK - HNL nonstop on Allegiant Air. Barf!

I've driven through Stockton on I-5 a million times. Didn't even realize they had an airport big enough for a 757. :D
