It's far too early, but if I'm reading this right, you need to spend $10,000 a year on VX to maintain Elevate Gold Status? Seems disproportionate to benefits. With $10k, I could probably get 1K on UA and MVPG too.

Yes, the annual renewal rate is $10K. But the good news is that if you take the challenge - and that's what it is, not a match, IMO - you get a discount if you spend enough by 30 April 2013 when the challenge expires. It is only $2,400 to keep gold through the end of 2013 if you go that route and only $1,000 if you get the CC, too.

Still not worth it long term, though.

If you are 1K only on domestic service where VX can serve the routes you fly and don't care about free upgrades and don't need to use your miles for international redemptions then it might make sense.

So, yeah, basically for no one.

If being connected while traveling is important and you're SFO-based, VX is a no-brainer. Many of my colleagues fly VX exclusively for this reason.

And you're flying to one of their locations and you don't care about upgrades or valuable miles. ;)

I want to try VX. Friends have said that their seats are quite cramped, esp. compared to E+.

I've flown VX once. It was fine. I was in F for a transcon at <$300 IIRC so I cannot complain about my personal experience but the general sense I get down the back is similar and I'm not sure why that would be particularly appealing for most with mid-tier status or higher.

Their E- is cosy, for sure. Hope for someone hot/cute of the proper gender next to you.
