    Star Alliance
Be sure to be watching this space tomorrow morning when you'll be among the first to know about a major new announcement from the Star Alliance network. In the meantime, any guesses as to what it could be?

NOTE: Most commenters on Facebook are saying that Air India will officially join....makes sense.

The longest, most drawn out entry in an alliance, ever. :)

    Air China is a member
Shaghai Airlines have been and gone
Shenzen Airlines (85% owned by you know who) joins.

China Airlines of Taiwan is going for SkyTeam.

And Air India.... All I have to say on AI is this: Tick tock... 31st July is fast approaching...

the deal with AI is they are inconsistent. The trick is to figure if they are flying a new metal or one of their old ones. my theory is that when they fly a new bird (A-319 on the domestic for example) the service and crew are good, when they fly on the old birds, the service and crew are both cranky. I have been hearing good things for them internationally of late, but haven't given em a shot yet

Chiming in on Air India - not sure I would want to fly them when they are unable to meet their crew salaries:

AI to clear salaries of a section of staff in 7 days
Posted: Sat Jun 11 2011, 00:51 hrsNew Delhi:

Cash-strapped Air India, which has failed to pay salaries of its employees for the last two months, has decided to clear salaries of a section of its staff in a week, said top airline officials.

“The salaries of Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ staff will be cleared in seven days,” said an airline executive. These categories cover over 50 per cent of the airline’s staff strength and also includes cabin crew. While the airline had paid basic salary to its employees, it had withheld productivity-linked allowance which accounts for almost 50-80 per cent of their total pay packet. The company’s annual wage bill amounts to almost Rs 3,000 crore.

Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi told The Indian Express that talks are on with the finance ministry to infuse further equity into the loss-making entity. So far, the government has pumped in Rs 2,000 crore in two separate tranches over the last two years. The Group of Ministers overseeing Air India’s turnaround had in 2009, given its assent for equity infusion of Rs 5,000 crore over the next three years, linking the financial support to time-bound deliverables. “The airline is facing severe cash shortage. The recent strike has made matters worse. Where is the money to pay salaries?” said a senior aviation ministry official.

Hmm, after the tension they tried to create yesterday it really is a big disappointment that it's a domestic only (almost) airline they add to star alliance.
    People can only be disappointed.
They should've just sneaked the info out without creating excitement about it.

Have I flown them? In the dim distant past - yes. Would I fly them again? Unless I was heading in that direction, nope. Least of all, for sleep purposes on the Asia routes, that's about 1/2 into a good nap.....

Shenzhen's English-language website isn't quite ready for prime time:

    From the website:

Shenzhen Airlines welcomed the second Airbus A320 in this year. Unlike in the past, the new aircraft will installed the airline seat made in China after arriving Shenzhen. This is first for Airbus aircraft to assemble the homemade seat. Shenzhen Airlines official said, as the leader of characteristics aviation, Shenzhen Airlines firstly used homemade seat in the domestic aviation industry, which is strongly supported China's aviation manufacturing industry
