    Hello all,

I have been looking at booking a room using Starpoints for the first time. So far, everywhere I have looked only has the lowest level room available when using Starpoints.
For example, if a hotel has 5 room levels:
Courtyard view, Ocean view, Ocean front, Jr suite, suite
it seems that only possible redemption with Starpoints is the courtyard view.
Being new to using starpoints, I was not sure if this is always the case, or just bad luck on my part.
If I have starpoints to use, is it possible to book something other than the lowest level room?
Is it possible to book the lowest level room with starpoints, then pay to upgrade to a higher room?

    Thanks,
    Jason

That's because standard rooms are the ones selected for standard award rooms.

It's not bad luck, but it seems like you might be interested in an Upgraded Award Room. You have to call the Customer Contact Center to check for availability and book these.

Ah, thanks for your help. Like I said, I am new, and I didn't know about the Upgraded Award Room page.
    Thanks again,
    Jason

FYI those rates are for paid stays ... not award stays (At least that's the way I understand it)

However I did get an offer from the hotel to upgrade rooms when i stayed using C&P. It was $25 I think from a stnd room to a corner view room @ the Westin Grand Vancouver.

Jason - your best days are ahead of you! We have done very well calling to get upgrades for additional points. The only downside is that the details of stays upgraded like that are not available online. You must be sure to print and retain your confirmation altho it can always be resent.

While the chart indicates the number of additional Starpoints necessary to upgrade a paid stay, one can, subject to availability, book a Specialty, Specialty Select or Suite Upgrade Award from scratch by calling the Customer Contact Center.

Yes, these often come in your pre-arrival email, but you could also inquire about the possibilities at check-in using an Instant Upgrade Award.
