    Press release: http://www.usairways.com/en-US/traveltools/intheair/wifi.html

Installation beginning on the E-jet fleet this summer and the Airbus fleet this fall, to be completed in 2013.

Look at US suddenly becoming a real airline! In-flight wi-fi, separate boarding lane for elites, first class seats on Express flights...man, who are these guys!?!

This is awesome news...I can't wait to have fleet-wide wifi access.

Why do you think they are starting with E fleet instead of the airbus?

Likely to compete with Delta and say that they have wifi on express as well.

I'm really excited about Gogo vision. Usually I have to try and remember to grab a few DVDs or download some stuff from Amazon before I head to the airport. But now if I forget or just don't want to bother I can grab something on the plane.

I'm a bit surprised they are only offering this on the Airbus units though. From the Gogo site, it would seem adding vision only adds a couple pounds over the normal Gogo setup. Maybe they don't think the shorter flights will have people that want to buy movies or tv?

I'd certainly buy a movie on a 2-3 hour flight. Oh well, better some planes than none.

I think that's exactly why, plus the majority of the Embraer 170/195/190 flights are at 10,000 feet or more well under two hours - and many of the flights much less than that. Internet pricing will be interesting for those short flights. I'm not going to pay $12.95 on a PHL-GSO flight, for instance.

It won't be that much. I'm thinking of short flights I've taken on 321's lately--PHX-LAX, for example. I think pricing was $4.95, if I'm remembering correctly?

Has anyone seen updates on the progress of this project? On the website all it says is "by the end of 2013" I wonder if that means they haven't started yet. I am hoping we gradually start seeing it on more than just 321s soon as they get the whole fleet setup. Love to hear if anyone has more insight to a detailed timeline.

Now all they need is to fill the meal gap in First for sub 3.5 hour flights.

That's why I switched to CO then UA. It made no sense to fly PBI PHL on US with no meal when PBI EWR on CO had hot meals at the time.

There was an update in the US employee newsletter the week of August 20th that the first E190 with GoGo wifi was put back into service on 8/22. So given that that was three weeks ago, maybe we can assume a handful more are now equipped as well?

There are fall/holiday flights already showing the E175 as having wifi. When is the rollout schedule again?

Us.com 61% of the fleet is equipped with wifi. This might seem like a strange concern but if they start a merger with AA do you think projects like this are put on hold or continue as planned?

I was on a A320 yesterday from PHX-BOS w WiFi...though it didn't show on their website as having WiFi. Maybe they aren't laveling them online until all of a fleet type has it installed.

To answer your question, they would probably go ahead with instillation as there are contracts signed and fleet upgrades scheduled. Since they will finish the fleet in the next couple of months, it would be finished before any details regarding a merger would be complete anyway.

The website was also last updated at 61% on 11/30...I have a feeling it is on even more of the fleet.

Are they not installing on 757 because they will be retired sooner than later?

They are probably not spending the money to install GoGo on the 757's because a majority of the routes the 757's fly are over-ocean routes (PHX-Hawaii, PHL/CLT to the Caribbean, and PHL-Europe) where GoGo doesn't work.

Makes sense but it is disappointing since they also use then PHX-DCA & PHX-PHL regularly.

I think the over-water routes plus the planned phase out of at least the domestic birds has something to do with it. It does stink for the DCA/PHL routes.

The PHL/PHX flights are usually East configured jets with Envoy seating. I'll take Envoy seats (with domestic service) over Gogo...
