I haven't received the offer myself but have gotten notes from a few people, it's not obvious what the criteria was -- it's a targeted offer you sign up for and best I can tell it's to various flavors of Amex cardholders.

Of course, we know that Centurion cardholders get Platinum already. And US Airways was added as a Platinum/Centurion lounge access partner (shortly before Amex announced the loss of Continental, as expected due to the United merger where of course Chase bank holds great sway).

So US and Amex have been getting closer, though not as close as when they were a points transfer partner with American Express Membership Rewards, something that presumably went away when Juniper Bank kicked in real dollars to help fund the American West-US Airways merger and got the co-branded card agreement as part of it.

Unclear how many of these were sent out or to whom, anyone gotten one?

I think I read that one offer was for someone with a green card?
