Earlier on, I had some respect for Parker given that he was able to run US and prevented it from going kaput (albeit in a cheap manner such as putting ads on tray tables). Now, however, he's becoming really "pushy" with this proposed merger deal and I'm sort of losing my respect toward him.

Please, say it ain't so! I'm really enjoying flying AA & this proposed merger would have me going back to UA.

I won't go so far as to say I'm losing respect for him, but it certainly looks a bit unbecoming. And while I still don't think a US/AA merger would be the end of the world, the more he talks like this, the less I like it.

Really excited about this proposed merger. Can't wait to see how the alliances work out.

Pretty much a given that any combination would be a member of Oneworld, isn't it?

Yeah. That's pretty clear. The airline would largely look like American though Doug Parker and his team would be running it. I'm guessing they'd move to Dallas, as opposed to staying in Tempe.

Both of these are pretty clear as well, IMO. In fact, one of the AA unions (can't remember which one - although I think I read it either here or TOBB) has already said the airline would be called American, HQ would be in Dallas, and they'd go with Oneworld.

As for Doug Parker running it, I'm starting to think he's more concerned about Doug Parker running a bigger airline than he is about AA, US, or the airline industry as a whole.

Regardless, Doug's group saved the USAirways name and jobs and will probably do the same for the double A's. I look forward to getting to know American and having the additional routes and aircraft to fly with. I don't know about OneWorld, but being a Phoenician, I look forward to flying British Airways on the PHX-LHR flight again in the near future.

It appears Doug's team is really taking a good approach this time and won't let AA get away like UA and DL have over the past years. Always interesting how some travelers seem to think it is AA buying US when it really is the other way around.

Anyway, the next few weeks will really tell us which way we are going. Just wondering if I should start flying AA yet or wait until the merger is announced and then figure out merging miles then.

The few times I've flown AA it has been on their regional American Eagle product. Curious to know how the AA mainline product stacks up against US? One the peeves I had with US was their decision a few years ago to strip the A/V product out of all their domestic A319/320/321 aircraft. It's not so much an issue now that I have an iPad, but I kinda enjoyed playing along with the trivia questions and watching reruns of NBC shows.

Oneworld is a joke compared to Star.

Same here. With my BMI miles moving to BA and my US miles moving to US I'd end up with a huge balance shift.

That's probably a little harsh. BA, QF and CX certainly aren't "joke" airlines. OW most certainly beats Skyteam for US fliers stuck with Delta's SkyDrachmas.
