If anyone has this could please tell me what purchases qualify for earning miles? The terms state over the counter cash transactions do not earn miles. So my am coffee would not earn then? How about gas or food at a restaurant?

Credit (pinless) transactions will always earn miles. I am not sure if you earn miles if you make a purchase and run it as debit (pin required). You will not earn miles for receiving cash back during a purchase.

If prompted to enter your pin hit cancel and tell the cashier to run it as credit..

What bank is this through? Is there a miles sign-up bonus?

Bank of America. 3,000 mile enrollment bonus and a $30 annual fee.

Use it judiciously, however. Unlike credit cards, the debit card only earns half a mile per dollar.

You are right, but I wanted to try BofA anyhow, so I figured why not try this out and get the bonus miles as well. My bank is a local bank and they just seem so far behind the times still.

Used to have Sovereign Bank...they suck....so far behind the times, can't even get paperless statememts. Now I have ING Direct...LOVE THEM, no miles accrual, but I haven't paid a bank fee since signing up.

Side note, we should try and get a US PVD group MR going in the future.

I use B of A and I have the US debit card. If you purchase airline tickets from US then you get mile for dollar spent. Anything else is half the amount of your purchase.

I've used this for debit transactions & I've never noticed any missing miles. The first month I had the card, I saved all my receipts (I usually only save them for credit cards), and when the miles posted, everything matched up.

I earn miles every time I use my debit card - with the pin or without it. The only way I do not earn miles is when I use it in an ATM. I use the card for all of my grocery shopping and other expenses that come out of our joint account. What I need to do is sign up my personal bank account for the US debit card too. I just never remember to do it until times like this when I am writing about it ;)

And the way I look at it, even earning a mile for every two dollars spent is still a mile!
