On a recent US Airways flight, the FA announced a "special offer" for the passengers on the flight, US Airways Barclays Bank Visa with 40,000 Mile bonus offer after be first purchase. The offer also includes two $99 companion certificates. Annal fee of $89 was not waived. I figure that for the cost of the annal fee and a Starbucks tat I would purchase anyway, I get a free R/T to Hawaii.

    Thoughts on accepting this offer?

I've had this card since March of 2012 or thereabouts. There were some other interesting features to it when I applied, which I suspect are still relevant. The card offers you Zone 2 boarding on US Airways flights, regardless of where you purchased the ticket or what card you put the charge on. I haven't charged a single US flight to that card this year, and I've boarded Zone 2 each time. Additionally, card membership provides you with Dividend Miles Select status in your DM account, which whacks 5000 miles off reward values when redeeming (e.g., a 25,000 mile award ticket would cost you 20,000 miles). There are others.

You can find discussion of these benefits in the forums here; I think the card is worth consideration beyond just the 40,000 mile sign-up bonus if you fly US a lot and don't have status.

I would definitely NOT do THAT offer. If you follow the links in Kalboz' post, you will find that this offer has no annual fee in the first year, gives you 10,000 miles per year after the first year, and gives other benefits:

Unfortunately, this offer appears to be restricted to Chairman's club only... I've flown US once this year and have no plans to fly them again, except:

    1. 40,000 free miles ($89 annual and first purchase)
    2. A merger between my primary carrier, AA and US.

I applied through the "chairman" link last month. Ironically i only made 1 $50 purchase with Delta....40k miles posted as soon as the statement closed....Also i remember when i activated the card, the rep confirmed the 40k offer....But YMMV

Yeah it is advertised that way but my 40k miles posted already and I haven't flown on a US flight in 5 years. (Flight attendant kicked me)

I have no idea. Perhaps there is more info in the FT thread on this deal, or elsewhere.

Seeing as the business version does not have as large of a signup bonus, and this card has been reported as being churn-able, why not just go for another personal card? Unless from a timing standpoint you don't want to wait for enough time to pass to try for another personal?

If you do go for the business, I'd love to hear how it works out!

I did apply for Personal and Business. Got approved for Personal instantly yesterday, but no luck with business. I guess will need to call their reconsideration line. :(

Does anyone know the reconsideration line phone number for Barclay's Us Air credit card? I was turned down and the letter stated they did not check my credit as I previously had the card and one can't get the card again.
