Any idea when we can use our AA 500 mile segment upgrades on US Airways?
Scott McCartney of the WSJ had an article this week with a quote from AA saying "weeks away", which surprised me a bit.
Wow. Okay. Thank you.
Reciprocal upgrades are "weeks away", but you may not be using your 500 miler upgrades to do it. My own guess is that at least until the programs merge, upgrades for AA elites on US will be complimentary, as they are for US elites.
June 11 is the date AAgents are being told we'll see the first step on this.
I wonder how they will do the pecking order?
Also speculation/talk/rumor/ (maybe fact) that on US metal will be complimentary elite upgrades (UDU) for all AA or US elites and on AA metal will be E-500 upgrades for those so applicable to (AA or US elites that are not CP and/or EXP).
Minor point: There is no AA Silver level, just Gold, Plat and EXP.
These are working off the airlines' existing "buy-up" programs. If there is a priority, I suspect that each airline's elites will be first in line on their flights. But, I think it's likely the technology will not allow it and it may be a first-come, first served basis.
Flying on US Airways tomorrow. Used my AA Gold to upgrade. Online checkin tried to make me pay. I called US rep. After being on hold for 25 minutes, the agent had no clue. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Holding another 5 minutes, the very nice and helpful supervisor came on the line. She said I could upgrade myself but not my travel companion. I read aloud the email from AA stating that one companion on the same record locator can upgrade. She apologized, upgraded both of us, and apologized that the kinks are still getting worked out with the evolving merger. At least it worked out and we will be sitting up front!!
I had a flight the first day and was offered a seat when I checked in online, zero glitches!
I was upgraded from CLT to ORD Friday evening. At the US club they told me I was #1 on this list. When boarding started I asked the GA if first had checked in full and he seemed completely put out with the question and said it was full. I really wasn't expecting anything is I started to board when they announced EXPs. When he scanned my boarding pass, it beeped and said "invalid seat" and he sheepishly handed me 2A. WINNING!
Seamless upgrades at app checkin. Only phl-lga-phl for me. Den-phl-den were full.
All aa members are filling our first class cabins and we have to use 500 mile upgrades or $30 each 500 miles on AA.
AA first is much nicer so yes the $30 is worth it. Don't complain.
