Good deal for those looking to upgrade on LH but wonder if that means those applying SWU's might be out of luck!
Definitely could reduce availability for SWU's. No doubt there.
This would seem to especially hurt people trying to use paper UA SWUs on LH flights.
However, when NW/DL did their one mile to upgrade promo for TATL/TPAC (from expensive coach fares) a couple summers ago, it didn't seem to have much impact, although I had worried at the time. IIRC the window for obtaining these special upgrades ended in early July, for travel through the end of the summer, and a few weeks after the program ended I was able to upgrade a TATL RT for late August at the time of ticketing for my first choice of dates and flights.
I took advantage of this last year with a B class fare (D outbound to USA/B inbound to EU) as it was only 20,000 miles and saved 1200 EURO- it is a good deal.
