    Hi all,

Over two segments this weekend, my wife and I were #1 & #2 on the upgrade list but the screen at the gate said all FC seats has been claims. Minutes before they closed the door, a gate agent came to us with upgraded boarding passes (lottery won!!) due to no-shows.

Is that the norm or were they just really nice people? Everything I've read said you would be removed from the UG list once you board.

    Thanks!

    Ed

PMNW had this as policy. DL's policy is that once you board you are not entitled to the upgrade. Some GAs, time permitting, will pull up people from coach. Others won't. The lack of consistency is a sore point with some.

Maintaining the original list and pulling people up is the right way to do it, imo. I wish it was the official policy and consistently followed. It's more personal, plus it gives the upgrade to whoever is next in line, not whoever delays boarding to the bloody end.

I definetely prefer the PMNW. Honestly, I believe it is more laziness than anything else.

Definitely had this happen. Last time, I had already fallen asleep so the poor FA scared the crap out of me and I think I surprised her a bit as well.

Typically it happens more frequently at PMNW hubs.

Alaska Airlines will pull people up. It has happened to me. I prefer the PMNW method to pull people to the front.

I think most people prefer it the PMNW way because it is customer friendly and is a consistent policy.

Often after wheels-up, if I have no seatmate I've 'upgraded' the armrest into the raised position, stretched out, and doubled my tray table status. :p

It's great to do this, even better when you can pull it off in F

I had three EC seats to myself Saturday...plenty of room for 1/3 of the M fare...;)

Why am I always on TATLs that are bursting at the seams but not full enough for me to score an op-up? I must really pick the wrong days to fly, or something, as I don't think I've ever seen three seats together that I could claim.

BOS-LHR was full though...but in 30A, I was okay with this. ;) Took off, reclined, passed out, woke up for the pre-arrival banana/muffin/juice, went back to sleep, landing to work in just over two hours. ;)

Maybe it was just my post-conference exhaustion, but I might finally be acquiring the ability to get a couple hours of sleep in row 30. (I had 30G this time, which does provide a nicer view of London on the approach.) I wish I'd had enough time at JFK to eat dinner so that I wouldn't have felt the need to eat the pasta that it took them forever to serve and then even longer to clear (they wouldn't even respond to my call button when my neighbor's tray was removed and mine left behind). For the first time ever, I wasn't even aware they were serving breakfast until they were doing the water/coffee/tea run. Fortunately (?) they still had a "breakfast" to give me. Those underripe, cold bananas really need to go!

    Greetings, y'all! First timer here...

Funny that this happened ATL-RSW yesterday, that there was 1 open seat up front, and 9 names left on the list. Once fully boarded, the GA started calling out names, but no one until the last name came forward! Maybe it was that it was the first flight out to RSW, and many of us had red-eyed from the left coast (or maybe, with 105 open seats in back on this 752, everyone already had their "upgrade"). But still, good to see this happen in ATL considering what y'all have been saying.
