As for new member, EVA Air of Taiwan will officially join the alliance around mid-next year strengthening the alliance’s network in North Asia.
Air India’s induction has been suspended since last July though AI wrote to the alliance a few months ago detailing improved performance and reasons why it should be included in the alliance.
The alliance’s CEO said: “Regarding Air India, we have not had formal discussions and that remains our position. We continue to view India as an important market for us to establish a presence and we will continue to monitor the situation there, but no active discussion right now.”
There was speculation that Jet Airways would join the alliance, but the government-owned Air India stood in the way.
