    A group of friends were on cloud nine today after they sent a balloon into space - which drifted back to Earth after capturing these stunning images.
    The amateur space enthusiasts attached two compact digital cameras, an HD video camera and an iPhone to a helium balloon before they released it into the air.

    It soared 22 miles into the atmosphere before floating back taking thousands of pictures of the Earth's curvature on the journey.

    Funny ... we did this on a much more primitive level for a Space Science summer course
    at Rice (for HS students) in 1968 or so ... our pix got onto the local TV news, but that's all ...
