    All,

Sorry if i missed a post, searched and couldn't find it.

I just called up continental and upgraded myself on a CO metal flight using United SWU.
The agent had to call a UA office, transfer the UA SWU to CT system, and apply it on my upgrade.

Took 20 min, easy peasy, and I am now upgraded.... Agent said i'm the first ever to do it (maybe just for them).

New Process should go Live 8/1, but can be done from today.

    SOOOOO HAPPPY!!!

If this is old news, sorry ;)

Very good news. Guess not too surprising in the grand scheme of things, eventually this was going to happen, though nice to see it start to roll out.

That is excellent news! I do have a question though, and I suspect I know the answer to the question. A friend of mine sponsored me for an upgrade using one of his SWUs on a mixed CO/UA itinerary (CO/UA/CO/UA,/UA). I am only WL on the 1st UA leg, can I get that SWU applied to my entire reservation? Or, am I out of luck, as I suspect? :(

Hopefully the other way around to work soon too.. CO Regionals/SWUs -- I just hit over 100k last Friday. CO Preview site is now letting folks redeem the new Regionals and SWUs -- but it won't let me apply it to UA flights itineraries yet. (And CO preview site hasn't "updated" yet to give me my 6 SWUs and 2 additional regionals :( )

Actually called 1K desk this afternoon with that specific question, they said "not yet." The friendly (she really was) agent said the ability to use them was coming very soon, but said she didn't know exactly when.

Are you waitlisted because the SWU hasn't been applied to the UA leg, or because there's no upgrade award space available? If it's because it wasn't applied, you should call. If it's because there's no space, there isn't much you can do except hope it opens up closer in or move yourself to a different flight that does have upgrade award space.

How does one find out whether there is SWU upgrade space available (in advance) on Continental?

i.e. --- Do you need to call reservations or is there a place on their web site?
As we know you can check on UAL by using expert mode and looking at award travel, for upgradable flights, but does the same apply at Continental?

Either use the advanced search on co.com and tick the box for upgrades (it is near the bottom) or, if you have access to the CO preview site, use that and look for R inventory.

I am WL on the one UA leg because when my friend sponsored the SWU, that was the only "true" UA flight due to changes to my itinerary and right now, no NF space. I am ok with that. The other flights were booked through CO.com, and are codeshare flights. The 1st leg is CO, second is UA (when I made the change), 3rd CO leg is already UG (B fare) and the other 2 UA flights are codeshare, CO# operated by UA. So, as I suspect, probably can't get the SWU applied to whole reservation.

But this is great news for upcoming travel I am thinking of planning.

I understand that R space on CO must be available to secure the UA SWU upgrade.

However, I'm still confused as to whether CO places any limitations on what fare(s) we must book to apply a UA SWU on a CO metal flight?

It must be a W fare and higher on CO.

Hey all! Thought I'd mention I used a UA SWU on CO yesterday. I was careful to book a CO flight # (not a codeshare) with a W fare, and I checked in advance that there was R space on the flight. Then I called the 1K desk, and the entire process took around 5 minutes. They transferred the SWU to my OP account, applied it, and I cleared instantly. Fairly painless, though obviously it would be optimal if we could do it online... but this was good enough for me for lie-flat BF on the CO 777!
