I haven't been able to use mine as I won't buy-up on international fares. I gave all of them away last year and have already given away 4 of my 9 this year. I'm sure I'll have no problem giving away the others before January.

I have two United flights to get home from SF on 10/9 so if anyone has an extra (or do I need two since I'm connecting in ORD?) please conversation me.:)
ETA: Did not realize it was a CR1. I'm still learning.

DIG/R_1K asked me a few days ago if I had any available for the next few months.
    Can you e-mail him, please?

You would just need a Confirmed Regional (CR1) and they work per direction so you wouldn't need a Systemwide Upgrade (Valid for International).

By the way EX-LAX Thank you for posting that! I do still need 1 or 2 UA plated SWU instruments and am willing to trade my 2012 expiring SWUs. If anyone here could help me out it would be much appreciated.

Back when I was still a 1K, I also found the fare hike to use my SWU's highly restrictive... especially since my corporate policy doesn't allow for these fares. I really wish UA would just allow SWU's to be used on all fares...

But, if they have to make additional revenue in order to use the SWU's, it would be better if they could separate the fee to use SWU's out from the regular fare. This would help corporate travelers to comply with their travel policies on the purchase of the underlying coach fare and pay up separately to use the SWU.

I've always managed to use my SWUs up to this year, but I still have 5 of 6 left and it's unlikely that I will be able to use them before the end of January. I won't spend a significant amount extra for W fares, so I tend only to get W fares in the summer - when the lower fare levels are so expensive that they cost nearly as much, or are simply unavailable. This year, my failure rate on SWUs has been over 90% when I've had W fares.

I have the rare occasion to have purchased two W class tickets to SGN over the holidays. As a 1P I've never had the pleasure of getting and using a SWU. If anyone has some that they aren't going to use by the end of January, I'd love to give it a shot.

Wait, where are you flying to/from? If one of your flights (either to or from ORD) is an international flight other than to Canada or Mexico, you will need an SWU, otherwise a CR1 will suffice. In either case, with normal layover times, you will only need 1 for each direction.

Realized after I posted it's a CR1 I would need. Will hope my luck holds out for an upgrade and Platinum is on the horizon so I should be self sufficient soon.:D

If anyone has an extra one that will expire by the end of January, please let me know. I have a home for it (not for me, but a friend of mine traveling on a W fare HKG-BOS in January). :)

I can use them on my DFW-SFO flight on the 9th. :). But, I doubt that deems the true nature of you wanting to give them away.

Oh please if anyone has a SWU that is expiring I would be forever grateful if they would apply it to my HKG-BOS flight on January 8.......20 hrs by myself in coach may make me LOCO. :)

Ah...I assume she's on HKG-ORD-BOS?... HKG-ORD is a tough market to use a SWU on...it always goes out full.

She is - I applied a SWU to her outbound flight. Hoping she clears that, well that we both clear it to HKG.

Is this because there's lots of paid F, or lots of elites utilizing SWUs/mileage to upgrade?

Do you think flying out on Sunday, January 1st will help at all? I'll be returning Sunday, January 8th..... :)

At least I'm already confirmed in 1st from BOS-SFO. :) Here's to hoping I can sip some bubbly on New Years Day!

I take it that you are both 1K's?! That may affect your chances -- IIUC, the upgrade hierarchy is according to status, fare paid & time added to waitlist!

But something must be working for you, if you're already upgraded on your BOS-SFO flight (maybe Y is full?) Hopefully DIG/R_1K can shed some light on this!;)
