Did any one get the URL for the challenge T&Cs?
Grand Prize Challenge
Latter slide references the official terms & conditions at:
The rules say that those on SMD4 are automagically eligible. Are those who were on the United DO eligible?
Sent from a tiny keyboard.
My comment doesn't apply to me (since I don't think I have a chance to be in the top 5) but did anyone else think it's strange to have the top awards be PQMs?
It seems someone who's in position to take a run at winning this wouldn't have much need for help reaching status, or am I misestimating something?
(I do realize PQMs can be useful for additional GPUs).
Glad to see the 10K RDMs for everyone to try for - I checked my records and I only hit 10 unique airports in the first three months of last year, but I think 20 is an achievable goal for me even with several trips already booked to *A destinations on awards... Looks like during middle of this year I had 16 unique airports in a three months period without trying, so with an extra connection here or there, should be able to stretch it 20! Segment-unique-airport-code-run, anyone?
P.S. kudos to United/MileagePlus for coming up with creative promotion for us!
Is Mr Stuker eligible?
Well, if he is then wijomas will have to work a little harder this time
I think the day wijomas chases UA status may well be a cold day in hell
Yes, but he is moving to the states
Yup. Even easier for him to keep his AA ExPlat
love can make you do crazy things!
You make a good point - Someone's going to earn 30K or 40K PQMs to be in the top 5 and probably the least likely thing they need is even more PQMs. I guess it will let them reach an extra pair of GPUs if they are so motivated.
It certainly does incent connections, doesn't it. With a little effort any US-based flyer can work DEN SFO LAX IAH ORD EWR into one itinerary or another. That's 6. If going to NY at all, use LGA or JFK. See if you can traverse CLE sometime. Go via NRT to Asia. It will require some focus but definitely do-able to reach 20.
Agreed. I think it's the first UA contest in the past 3 SMDs
Oops, I made a typo on the thread title, who can fix?
Yes, but that's enough to have anyone put in the loony bin
But he belongs there anyway. As do many of us
I talked to him and he said he was going to ask to be excluded.
Yes, nice of UA to offer the promo. But for most - doing mileage runs to get 20 or more destinations for 10K additional miles likely isn't worth it. One RT transcon for 1Ks will yield 10K miles without having to go out of your way for 20+ destinations.
So unless you plan lots of travel to go for the 100K miles or the grand prize (GS), not sure if it is worth it.
I believe you mean "isn't" worth it? 10K does seem like small change to me sometimes. My mom needed a short but otherwise expensive flight (20K RT). I booked it without even thinking.
Corrected above. Thanks.
Once you have exhausted the UA hubs (EWR, IAD, ORD, CLE, IAH, DEN, LAX, SFO) and your home airport - then you need 11 more destinations outside of those hubs. Say you do 5 end points, then you need 6 more - which would likely be mileage runs. But just one mileage run gives you 10K or more miles. So mileage running doesn't make sense here.
But of course this is the winter season when fares tend to be low and people do a lot of mileage running anyway to earn EQM - so in some cases - maybe it does makes sense.
Some popular end points for mileage runs from the east coast can be SNA, ONT, SAN, PDX, SEA, SJC which have competition and many times good fares.
You mean west coast, right
I believe cova meant what he said. If you are starting on the East Coast, those would be good destinations on the West Coast. If you are starting on the West Coast, I would head to BWI, MHT, BOS(?), PHL, LGA, PBI, FLL, and MIA(?).
This may be an excellent excuse for the Island Hopper. That's 7 right there (including HML and GUM) and you could go on to YAP and KOR.
I wish I went to the DO. I'm booked to 50K PQM through 2/18
Good to know. He probably already has GS anyhow.
I guess you would have to book each segment separately. United.com doesn't support that many - but I guess you could call.
