I think they should have kept them retired. What's the point of reactivating them? Doubt they ran out of flight numbers.....

Wow. I'd like to hear the rationale behind this. Hopefully, this was just a big mistake and they'll keep these flight numbers retired. I think I would actively avoid these flights.

Out of respect to the people who lost their lives on 9/11 and their families, I think they should keep the numbers retired. I don't see what there is to gain by re-activating them, and it's going to upset a lot of customers.

Personally, I think the numbers should go back into service. As nothing else to show that although we honor the memories of the victims, we are not going to allow an act of terrorism to paralyze us in fear and superstition. Although these are CO codeshares, I think they should at least do one flight with each number with the originally intended aircraft types on the original routes to show that we will overcome, before launching these numbers on new routes that actually have a lot of similarity with the tragic flights.

What bad taste... These flight numbers should have stayed retired

While it disrespects those directly impacted by the tragedy, it gives them two (2) whole flight numbers they can use.

Just something else Mr. Smisek can do as he drives his steamroller over the field of tulips with his big smirk.

Yes the numbers should stay retired as well as the numbers in all other fatal air crashes. As I did not know/remember the significance of the numbers until they were pointed out, this could be just an innocent if tactless mistake by a drone from sector G.

Shows no class by the new airline. Keep them retired imo.

Hi Everyone, we sincerely regret these flight numbers were inadvertently re-instated into our system. We are taking immediate steps to remove them and apologize for this error.

Glad to see they are being removed. It was in poor taste to use them and I am surprised that whoever decided to put them into the system did not realize the significance.

To be fair- it could be something as simple as a computer system automatically assigning numbers... the airline wasn't planning on using the flight #s, and it is fixed same day.

Or they didn't think it was a big deal until the public outcry. We don't know what went on behind the scenes.

I know we're all a skeptical bunch, but I just can't believe it is something intentional that they tried to slip under the radar. Rather, I believe it was either a computer issue or that someone just made a mistake/missed it. No way Smisek did it just to show he's in control (as you suggested above).

Thank you, Scott. I assumed it was a mistake (like the new boarding process ;))

Thanks for doing the right thing, Scott (because I have a feeling that you were the one who saw the thread here on on FT, and stepped in). This is the best example I can think of to refute the adage that "there's no such thing as bad publicity."

Well, it hasn't been fixed yet. Still seeing UA093 and UA175 in the system (but it'll be removed for sure anytime between now and saturday)

side note: I wrote that post on UA093 and 175 for 2 reasons. 1) slow news day 2) personal interest for seeing those numbers coming back.

IMO what has been happening is UA has been changing their #s to what CO #s has been, and many a carrier probably have #s 93 and 175, and yes CO does have them.

So I see it as much ado about nothing. simply the person who is working out the future schedule and flight #s never thought to remove those 2 #s from COs inventory and why should they have since CO has been using those 2 #s since 9/11 as many Carriers have

FWIW AA uses 93 and 175 on its flights does that mean AA isnt sensitive CO uses 93 only out of the 4, which of cause it wont be going forward, havent checked the other Carriers

I understand UA 93 isnt the same as AA 93 and fwiw at least now UA isnt using 77 or 175 the AA flights from 9/11, even thou AA has been using the UA #s. Yet I never read anything where people were condemning those Carriers who used a Flight # that another carrier removed from its inventory. AFAIK neither Flight # was actually used on a UA flight
