As use of the Boeing 787 expands rapidly, United is preparing to operate two of the world’s longest 787 flights.

United’s Los Angeles-Melbourne flight, scheduled to begin service Oct. 26, would travel 7,927 miles, currently the longest plan route to be operated by the 787 family. The flight would operate six days a week.

I'm booked on MEL-LAX in November in BusinessFirst and the flight is blocked at 14:35 which isn't too bad considering.

I'm jealous. I'll be much older and grayer by the time Delta takes delivery of any 787s.

To be honest, a 787 ride from LAX-MEL would be more enjoyable than LAX-SYD-security-wait in lounge-MEL on the 747. Factor in 787s cabin altitude environment (set for 2000ft lower than other planes) and humidity setting, and the overall ride should be more comfortable!

Agree completely. But, still wouldn't want to do it in coach.
