United will fly the team and have more presence/signage at AT&T park and the Giant's website.

    More details here.

Wonder what plane they will use?

UA does the LA Dodgers as well. They like the CO planes with DirecTV.

Is it usual practice that a sports team tends to fly with the airline that has the strongest presence in their home airport? Does this mean the Phillies are stuck flying US?:D That alone could be to blame why they didn't win last year?

I believe the Phillies, like a majority of MLB teams, use DL.

I can't see to find the Giants charter, but the Dodgers are CO1902.

And it's about damn time! I cannot effing believe that they used a non-local airline in the past.

Except that according to the FlightAware link above, they are using CO planes which for some reason does not feel "local"

Isn't Virgin America the only real local airline, though, with headquarters in Burlingame? Imagine they were never in the running with no aircraft to spare, though they have orders for 60 A320s.

Over the last few years, CO (part of UA but mostly CO equipment) has really stepped up its game and grown into a solid #2 to DL in the pro sports charter game. DL has historically been a favorite of the NFL because of their competitive 767 rates and flexible charter packages, and inherited a great deal of NFL, NBA, and NHL business from NW. However, CO has recently been much more aggressive with charter pricing and scored a number of former DL contracts, including the New Orleans Saints.

CO usually uses 737-800s for most sports charters. NFL road trips, on the other hand, require more 'heavy lifting' and usually call for 757-300s at CO or 757-200s at UA. The NFL team charter contracts also include a varying number of 767 upgrades that teams use each year for preseason road games (larger pre-cutdown rosters, more equipment), longer hauls over the course of the year, and playoffs.

If, like many other passengers from CLE, they have been stuck on ERJs, it might explain their performance the past two years. [IMG]

Do 1K members get free tickets to PacBell Park? (I refuse to acknowledge its acquisition by AT&T.)

1Ks do indeed get free tickets. You didn't see the blurb on the "1K only" website?

Oh wait, that website hasn't been updated in a few months :p
