    Hey guys. I could really use some help with this situation I'm in with United. I recently took a trip to South America that ended up being 75000 miles with United Mileage Plus. During the trip I had to change my departure city going back to the states. The website was unable to book for me so I had to call in to speak with an agent. After about 90 minutes on the phone due to the fact that he had some technical issues and needed a support guy to help him we finally booked the ticket. Now since the new itinerary was 60000 trip I paid the $75 fee and was promised a 15000 refund. Now after looking at my account activity it seems that there was some movement on my account with regard to my points and they took 80000 for the trip. So not only did they not return my 15000 points they also took another 5000. I tried giving their help line a call and we had the worst connection ever and they were unable to help.

    Here is a record of the activity:
    01/20/2013Standard Award ZC44(80,000)
    1/12/2013Combined Rewards ZC44||YC44(60,000)
    01/12/2013Award Redeposit60,000
    12/3/2012
    Combined Awards: ZC44 | YB44 75000

    Note that the original booking was on 12/3...the date I called in was 1/12....and the flight was on 1/19 or something. DId someone manually do this???

    Any idea what I can do? I'm at a loss ideas!

    Try emailing mileageplus@united.com a short concise and easy to understand message with just the bare facts and ask for correction.

    Okay email sent out to them. Do you know of any previous instances of this happening or if the email support team is usually helpful? Thanks!

    I've emailed them when they didn't return the miles or GPU for an upgrade that didn't clear. Took about 10 days but was resolved without issues.

    IME, prior to the official merger, Mileage Plus issues have been resolved fairly quickly. Even for elites (term used loosely nowadays), it does sometimes take a week or two. Be patient, I'm confident you'll hear back from them.

    How did you get it credited back if the trip had already started? I have tried getting 1K agents to do that with no luck.

    Call Mileage Plus directly - they can often resolve the issue over the phone.
