When applying a GPU to a TATL itinerary last week, I noticed that the Lufthansa GPU upgrade page on United.com contained a drop down menu for ANA flights as well. I made an enquiry and spoke with a UA supervisor, and I was told the GPU program with ANA just started last week. At that time, I was informed upgrades can only be requested up to 8 weeks in advance, and they are either confirmed at the time of booking or not, but there is no wait listing GPUs for ANA flights. As with Lufthansa GPU applied flights, each NH flight segment requires a GPU. If booked on a UA-ANA Codeshare, the ticket must be converted to the actual NH flight numbers for the GPU to be applied to the itinerary. Call United reservations to do so. To request an upgrade, go to the following page: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/reservation/flight/upgrade/gpuPartnerUpgrade.aspx Here are the details of the program from the United GPU page. https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/mileageplus/premier/swupgrades.aspx Global Premier Upgrades on ANA-operated flights are valid for one-segment, one-cabin upgrades on any multi-cabin international flight operated by ANA and marketed by ANA or United. Upgrades are subject to availability and valid for paid, published fares only. The following ANA fare classes are eligible for Global Premier Upgrades: C, D, J, Y, B and E. Terms and conditions for ANA-operated flights Upgrades are valid only on ANA. Requests for upgrades can be made after you have purchased your ticket. Upgrades can be requested until 24 hours prior to departure. Your MileagePlus account number and password are required to complete the request. Global Premier Upgrades may not be requested when you travel on industry discount, agency discount, deeply discounted promotional tickets, award tickets using miles, or tickets purchased through sites like Priceline and Hotwire where the airline is not disclosed until after payment. ANA may impose blackout periods where upgrades are not permitted. Global Premier Upgrades may only be requested for up to four passengers per reservation. Global Premier Upgrades are deducted from your MileagePlus account automatically at time of reservation. One Global Premier Upgrade is required per person. Each individual segment requires a separate Global Premier Upgrade. For example, if you are flying on an eligible fare from Tokyo to Frankfurt to Rome, two Global Premier Upgrades are required. Double upgrades from Economy to First are not permitted on three-cabin aircraft. Standby and waitlisting is not permitted. An upgrade may be confirmed within eight weeks of departure, if a seat is available. Mileage accrual is based on the original ticketed booking class, not the upgraded class of service. Requests for seat assignments, special meals and amenities should be made directly with the operating carrier. If you wish to make changes or cancel your Global Premier Upgrade request, please contact ANA. If an ANA segment of your itinerary is canceled, the upgrade request for that segment will also be automatically canceled. The Global Premier Upgrade will be automatically redeposited 24 to 48 hours after the cancellation. Global Premier Upgrade awards are not available through general selling agents. It would be great to see trip reports from members who make use of their GPUs to upgrade ANA flights. Happy travels.
