    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to give you a quick heads up that later tonight we’ll be making some changes that will impact the ability to book award tickets on many of our Star Alliance partner carriers. Specifically, this will impact all carriers except, United, Air Canada, Copa, Aer Lingus, Hawaiian, Lufthansa, US Airways and Island Air. We expect full functionality to resume sometime Thursday afternoon (9/27).

Thanks in advance for your patience. We’ll work to get all award options back on line, as quickly as possible.

Will the other partners still be available via the call center?

I sincerely doubt it as they're working on improving their technological systems, if they wanted to do StarNet blocking they would have left Lufthansa out of the list ;).

Unlikely. StartNet blocking would have come as the dreaded "October Surprise" rather than as a heads up...;)

No, that's the pending system "update/enhancement" scheduled for October 1st ;)

No Star partners kills viable redemption. I'm looking at modifying an existing award res and without Asian airline inventory, it's impossible.

The "options" visible at the moment involve 150k "standard" levels in Y via GUM on a domestic config, ghetto 772 and can best be described using Jeff R.'s phrase:

    [IMG] best in class [IMG]

Restore the Star inventory and save us from this vision of a Deltified future!

 It's already been announced as being a temporary change that should be restored in a few hours.

Please keep FT hyperbole on FT.

I'll post where I like. Too bad if you don't like it....

Anyway, the SQ380 has just reappeared at SAVER rate instead of UA's ghetto 772. Good.

But for a moment, it did look at least a little like DL..... with the exception that the 150k standard award does correspond with the published mileage requirement.

I agree, not quite like 635k from PHL to FCO, not all of which was in J...

Indeed, post whatever you want, wherever you want. Just don't be surprised when people ignore you for "crying wolf" all the time, particularly in the face of many specific facts contradicting claims in your posts. [IMG]

It looks like a lot of availability is back, with the glaring exception of OZ.

I'm not sure what you mean with that unspecified allegation about "facts contradicting claims."

It's documented that PHL to FCO was offered by DL SM as a 635k redemption, a demand that then and now does not correspond to any published SM redemption multiple. Others found even more outrageous demands.

Use of DL PMUs on KL M fares was rescinded overnight, with no notice.

Use of DL PMUs on AF W fares was rescinded overnight, with no notice.

The AF O bucket disappeared overnight, reappeared and then disappeared and reappeared after May 13. Didn't you see the howling on the boards?

DL eliminated the ability to use multiple ECVs. Maybe they gave a few days notice on that one, I can't recall.

DL recently doubled intra-Asia award travel requirements overnight.

Of course maybe these numerous recent postings by people other than me are all also contradicted by fact :)

I'm not the one who posts in the first place about any of these developments. Naturally I watch with amusement, because each and every new DL violation of expectation is greeted with howls of disappointment by the formerly-faithful. They're feeling sore and disappointed because DL is violating even the limited trust they place in SM value.

The only speculative thing I've mentioned of late is the tying of the unpublished fare table to the front end of DL.COM with fractional MQM accrual on non-full economy fares. I argued that event presages what's coming for SM13.

I repeat: if the earnings table is supposed to apply only to unpublished fares, then why - how - was the "mistake" even made? What's the point of an IT architecture that connects the front-end published fare vending platform to a set of fares defined as "unpublished" and that are "intended" to remain so? Hmmmm....

You know that we will return to this conversation at a later date, much as I do regularly to PHL to FCO from 2010. You should know that I laugh out loud when I type these codes into the computer. I can't even type them into UA.COM without amusement. It's my mission to brand DL SM with "PHL to FCO for 635k, not all of which is in J..." It is...well...

You know what it is. I'm laughing out loud at this coffee shop and people are wondering what could be so entertaining....if only they knew!

To start, I wasn't talking at all about DL.

:p Hodiho! Yes, I think I cross-wired the responses to the DL threads with the one here while I was writing them.

Still, the DL SM analysis provides valid information for UA folks who don't venture into DL turf and have no concept of how good we have it with the UA/Star award system.

Now to the BA board, with my new paid F bounty in hand!
