Stumbled upon a change in the United Club this week - new cheese. Still Tillamook but the weight is down by a third. The new ones actually look like they were run over by a steamroller. I found an old one at DEN - not in the greatest of shape - to compare against. Ah, change...

Let's face it, no one heads to a United Club for a meal. And it's high time that they permit patrons to bring food inside the Club, because there not much of that available in the Club!

I'm sure they are just doing it to be "health concious" and reduce the number of calories for their visitors...

Or increase the amount of plastic packaging that will be discarded as people take twice as many individual packages to fill up. Wasteful!

Before we torch United for this, Tillamook may have made the packaging change. Food companies do this all the time (e.g., Frito-Lay’s Sun Chips' package shrunk from 10 oz. to 7 oz. earlier this year).

Really? "torch United"? I guess that it's a pity that the "cheese change" wasn't announced on the United Club website. After all, it's barely noticeable, since all their Clubs provide gratis hot/cold/sandwich bars and premium drinks at all United lounges. Or did we just confuse a typical sub-par US-based airline lounge with that of a foreign air carrier (e.g., LH)?

    Sure
Tell me which U.S. airline lounge provides "gratis hot/cold sandwich bars and premium drinks"
With expectations like those, you are bound to be disappointed. Sorry

And it's great that you see my point! Yet, I have enjoyed good food and drink in the U.S. in Lufthansa Lounges.

Wouldn't it be refreshing for United Airlines to say: "We see there's a big Delta between our Clubs and certain others, and we value our customers. Therefore, it's to our Aadvantage to provide good food and drink to our valued customers, and from now on, it will be there for you."

Real important the size of a packet of cheese in the scheme of the whole flying experience :)

What next?.. the size of the toilet paper segments?

Knowing United they'll implement an new policy to minimize the time that passengers are allowed in the restrooms of the clubs. ;)

And, GS can demand any lower status passengers exit the bathroom immediately.

The classic Tillamook logo is missing. Is this a "store brand" cheese?

Ahh, just like GS members can demand any lower status passengers to be evicted from their assigned seats? ;)

The more packages of cheese one takes, the less likelihood that the cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone.

And if United never sent you your status card, you can use the complimentary bathrooms provided in the terminal.

So, so me, this is much larger than just the cheese. Frankly, I thought the cheese was too large for two crackers before so this just right sizes it for me. If you want more, take 2. They're free!

More to the point for me is the availability of some decent food choices in the club. I am a lifetime United Club member (ex Continental Presidents club) so I am more than familiar with the crackers/snacks/carrots that are the afternoon and evening offings at the club. I have just completed a status match on Delta (Platinum for 1K) and while completing the challenge, I went ahead and purchased a Sky Club membership as I now travel out of SLC more and more and wanted to give it a try. While the Sky clubs are not perfect and vary by airport not unlike UA, the food choices are definitely better. The availability of something simple such as a choice of hearty soups or heavy hor d'ouvre's such as olives and marinated mushrooms make a big difference and is usually enough to hold me over between meal-less flights. While neither is LH quality, IMHO Delta wins by a long shot. Hopefully United takes notice and makes some changes in the future.

Now can we talk alcohol offerings??? UGH!
