I used the United Club in D Concourse on Jan 29, and noticed a sign saying that it was closing at the end of the month. I thought that it has also said that this was due to a move in the UA gates to a different concourse and assumed that there would be a new one near those gates.

Upon my arrival today (Feb 1) I went to a UA counter in the T concourse, and was informed that there is no United Club anymore, anywhere. The counter staff was prepared with copies of some addresses for those who are unhappy about this to complain to:

    jeff.smisek@united.com (CEO)
    jimmy.samartzis@united.com (V.P. Customer Experience)
    michael.j.landers@united.com (Director, United Clubs)
    also: united.com/freedback

Fortunately, though, ATL does have free WiFi, and the gate seats are generously fitted with power outlets, but this does not a United Club make. The UA website is still advertising the lounge, with no indication of a closing date.

There are around 25 UA flights a day from ATL. That certainly should be enough to justify a Club location here!

Let's let them know what we think!

Were the employees working in the club offered other positions in the organization?

They were assigned to other duties at ATL.

They went from full time to part time I do believe for the baggage office and the ticket counters as well.

"Five full-time employees were offered part-time jobs in baggage or ticket counters. The rest are gone."

There is also lengthy talk about a new club in that thread, but I haven't really tried to keep up with it since it's unlikely I will ever use it even if there is one.

And the ATL station is scheduled to be fully outsourced in the very near future. Those employees didn't have a whole lot going for them even if the lounge stayed open.

It is interesting to see the small bit of insubordination in passing out the flyers, but not too surprising. They don't have much to lose at this point.

I'm a bit saddened by what's going on there, just because some of the former CO folks there had been there for many years, and I was one of their regulars for nearly a three year period in 2007-2010. I always hate to see good folks lose their jobs through no fault of their own, and given the excellent service they consistently provided, I have a difficult time seeing how there are positives to this situation other than to UA's bottom line. I know that's the way the business is going, but it still sucks if you're a regular customer who got to know those agents by name. :(

Well, that makes things difficult (inconvenient) for me at ATL. I don't have status or club membership in Delta, and FB status works for DL club access only on international itineraries, so the United Club was the place I waited when transiting.

Unfortunately, I can't just avoid ATL, and I'm not going to get status in Delta. :(

Or Priority Pass and use the lounge in F which is much nicer than the UClub was.

Or just sit in the terminal in F which is much nicer than the UClub was.

F is great for as long as they continue to use D gates, but literally the other side of the airport from the T gates - is UA still using the gates on the end of the concourse? If so, the Admirals Club is right next to them.

(And I know your feelings that club memberships are a waste of money. I'm more pointing out that if someone's going unhappy about not having a club to wait in, well, there's plenty of other options if they're willing to pay for it.)

At least I don't have to spend more time on Facebook to acquire elite poster status ;)

No sure if this came up somewhere else, but UA is in the process of consolidating all their flight ops from Concourse D to T. In that sense the closure is logical.

That has been planned for some time, and at one point, UA was going to build a new club in T. Apparently that's off the table completely now.

Once upon a time, the merger was supposed to actually lead to more Club locations. I distinctly remember a conversation with Scott wherein he stated that UA+CO would now have critical mass in several markets (think TPA, MSY, PIT, BWI as particularly glaring absences) such that new lounges would eventually be added to the portfolio. That hasn't materialized, and now I guess we can add ATL to the list.

There are a lot of things that were talked up during the early days of the merger that sounded great, but have failed to happen. :(

    Window Dressing...

Of course they had to spout wonderful things about the merger to get past the DOJ ATI scrunity and sell it to everyone else including Wall Street. Now we're holding a basket of lemons wondering if decent limoncello can be made out of it.

I''m just saying of course people lied or said things to get the merger pushed through. It is what it is. :)
