That's why we don't have rock bottom fares anymore! (PDX-LGA excepted). :p

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-...rofit-falls-less-than-estimated-on-fares.html

United’s profit excluding some items was $109 million, or 30 cents a share, which beat the 11-cent average of 14 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

United, the world’s largest carrier after merging with Continental in 2010, and other airlines benefited from planes that flew more than 80 percent full, giving them more pricing power to increase fares.

$265m in profit sharing for employees!

Kind of a misleading statement you're making since UACO reported that TPAC/TATL numbers were lower than expected, so who knows...

It was a bit tongue in cheek.

Glad to see them making money. Hopefully the employees will get a nice bonus check.

Roughly 5% of their 2011 salary as I understand it.

A few interesting notes from the Q4/YE2011 earnings call...

    1) AP didn't understand why they'd pick the co.com infrastructure.

    2) Retiring 17 735s, 5 752 and 5 762s while bringing in 19 73Es and 5 788s.

    3) New ancillary products will becoming post-SHARES to augment last year's more than $2Bn in ancillary revenue.

    4) Expect all international planes to be lie-flat by EoY.

And there was a War Games reference. It was .

Glad I could do my part to help... Guess this means we won't be seeing as many promos for awhile...

I would be prepared for more fare increases, as the airline tries to drive it revenue even higher

They will try to make as much as possible while they can. Makes perfect sense. However, as a consumer, I will be paying more to fly. Fares are already higher IMHO compare to last year.

Yeah, I didn't see any references to War Games but then again when I was on the Conference Call I didn't get everything translated accurately via text relay so it'd be awesome to know which reference they used :D

There was a question about the SHARES cutover and the person asking basically said, "I've got this vision in my head of the mega computer in War Games that they cannot turn off once it starts..." at which point Smisek laughed and interjected that they will have the ability to abort the migration if things are going that badly.

    My favorite War Games quote:

General Beringer: "Mr. McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks."

Now that's hilarious :D I did not see that at all on the text relay during the conference call... Thanks WA!

I just spotted it in the transcripts. Of course, they are wrong so it takes a bit of editing to understand them...
