United Airlines flies 100 Meridian kids to the North Pole

    Friday night, United Airlines proudly presented a frequent flyer’s nightmare three weeks before Christmas: kids - laughing, shouting, smiling in every available seat on the flight.
    Ninety-eight of them with no parents.

    And when a bunch of little rugrats take over an airplane, where do you think they’re going to go?
    “The North Pole!” a little girl named Megan exclaimed.

    “We’re going to be getting presents from Santa Claus,” first-grader Christopher Hernandez said. “We’re going to see the elves and the reindeer and we’re going to fly to Santa Claus all by ourselves.”

    Christopher and his friend Jordois Brooks attend first grade at Ponderosa. The Meridian School District chose the two of them and nearly 100 other students for Operation Santa’s Sleigh.
    “I want a Transformer,” Christopher said. “[I want] Optimus Prime.”
    With the leader of the Autobots on his mind, Christopher sat through face-painting and photographs waiting for liftoff. But, wouldn’t you know it, the airline delayed the flight.
