In future news, United recently hires Romney campaign staffers and plans to market itself with the results of this survey:

United Airlines ranks No. 5 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index’s 2012 list

    Selective editing is great! :D

Noteworthy, though: Facebook is on that same list with a score of 66, and yet millions and squillions of people use it every day, voluntarily.

There's still 4 spots further up the rankings for Jeffie Jeff to strive for.

I wonder if CodbaUA would drop even more if they included the TSA and the IRS in the list ;)

I'm a little hazy on the term dropping. Is moving toward 1 dropping or rising? :D

Funny that the Chron comments had things like "does United know?" - United is perfectly happy about it, under the Joint Venture they make money on every transatlantic Lufthansa ticket.

I am not sure if that says something about Houston or United. :)

Looks like GIGO to me. And a reporter who just reprinted a press release.

Note that UA is at 62, AA at 64, US and DL at 65.

What does this tell us? Pretty much nothing but a rank order.

How reliable is it? Beats the s--- out of me.

Their methodology is anything but transparent. And if you look at historical data from this ACSI index, United has actually been improving piecemeal since 2009, and CO was much higher in satisfaction than UA pre-merger.

    All noise. Noise, noise, noise.

Also, newspaper comment sections are obviously where a representative sample of the world's smartest people spend all their time. Blah.

Disclaimer: poorly-done social science and craptacular reporting put me in a sh-tty mood.

    :rolleyes::mad:

PS: "COdbaUA" needs to go in the glossary with $mi$ek.

Sooo many Houstonians view business transactions through a "disrespect" filter it's not even funny. The WN/HOU expansion mess was a good example of that.

Many in Houston will NEVER forgive COdbaUA for keeping their corporate HQ in Chicago, nevermind that it was the right thing to do from a business perspective. (You'd also be surprised how many ppl in Houston still believe CO "bought" UA and "turned their backs on H-town)

    Agreed.

True, but they're fun to read during lunch.

    +1

Do you not find enough interesting/helpful/insightful threads on MilePoint to keep yourself occupied/entertained during lunch? ;)

Quite honestly, unlike real letters to the editor, virtually all online news comment sections are extremely depressing to read for me.

Facebook is yet to lose any of my reservations or luggage.

Although I'd still rank USAirways lower, at least United is yet to insult my wife by telling her to step aside because she is obviously not Premier Gold and does not have priority boarding.

But if I gave FB my bag, I'd expect them to search it, take photos of the dirty undies and post them to my wall or use them in ads displayed for my friends ("Look, HMWT needs new underwear, and his birthday is coming up soon, how about ordering some Hanes?")

And actually, come to think of it, United hasn't lost any of my bags either. Only LH and BA have managed that so far.

If you're tied to a hub, or have certain travel patterns, there is a decent chance you are limited in choice of airlines. If you look at other services with limited choices, I imagine most people are dissatisfied with them. When the power company decides to start giving me free drinks for paying my bill on time, they'll move up on my satisfaction list. :D

I read the article, but I can't stomach getting through the comments. I do wish there was a facing article talking about speculation that UA was going to cut service IAH-MUC in response to competition from LH and the City of Houston's decision. That would be an epic fail of a news story (again, recognizing that UA makes money when LH fills the plane)
