A United 767-300 domestic two-class "Ghetto Bird" being pulled to the gate as we were taxiing out at LAX. Ironically, the A320 that I was on also was wearing the new colors.

Sorry for the poor quality, but I was using my phone camera.

I'm warming up to the new paint scheme, but I still cringe at the thought of flying on a United 767.

Looks are deceiving. Brand-new paint on the outside. Inside it's barely a step above late 1980s/early 1990s flying. [IMG]

They would be nicer on the inside with the 767 interior that's in my avatar

Yep. It would be awesome if the money was invested to rip out the overhead bins, sidewalls, and ceiling panels and replace them with the ones introduced on the 764, which CO also had installed on their 762s (since CO didn't order the 762 until the 764 and its new interior was in the works). The minor modifications UA made to the international 763s in the premium cabins do improve the interior appearance, but the bins are still terribly small, and those new curved doors they installed on them actually don't open as much on those small bins as the old doors did, making it even harder to get a standard-size carry-on bag into the bins in the front two cabins of those aircraft.

Realizing I'm in the minority, I kinda like the new livery. Hope they get around to fixing up the interiors of those 767-300 domestic airplanes though. Ugh!

    Thanks for the photo.

Worth mentioning that the paint scheme is not new, rather it's 20 years old. ;)

I don't think you are. At least not in the larger real world.

There are a lot of us that come from legacy United that have the "new" United livery growing on us. I know I'm starting to like it for how clean it is, and the fact that the planes are getting painted is a bonus. It was crazy to be flying out of YYZ and being on one of the battleship planes at the nice terminal there surrounded by nice AC planes

Do you have any sort of market research data to back that up?

I know there are many flyers that really do not care what the outside of the plane looks like, they just want a low fare to get them from point A to point B

At least as much as anyone claiming the opposite. And since I made it pretty clear that I was expressing my opinion rather than researched fact I'm not so sure it matters.

Some are, others are members of Mileage Plus because United offers the best options for them.

I find it impressive how fast United is painting all the new planes! I mean its taken like ten years to paint maybe half their planes with the new white and blue scheme.

I am as well with regard to "the paint" but remember, not all UA 67's are created equal....case in point my flight on 3/1 (in just a few hours ;)) was a 767x2 but is now a 67i and for those that don't know, that is the 3 cabin international version with lie-flat seats in both F & C (and my upgrade held during the a/c swap as I correctly went from F on the 2 cabin to C on the 3 cabin-which afaic IS an upgrade ;))

Now as to the photo by the OP, I don't track tail numbers (and humor me as it's 1:15am and I'm pulling my sop all-nighter for my 6am flight ) , but iirc, without knowing the tail number, don't all UA 67's look alike from the outside?

Likewise. Last year I wasn’t too keen on it at all, but as I see it more and more, and I’m in Australia so I see it mainly in photos, it’s growing on me :)

Not sure what's so impressive. It's really just money and scheduling. You allow enough time and provide a big enough budget, you can get it done more quickly.

Prior to the Continentalization, it was just a lower priority, aside from the Ted reconfigurations, which they did rather quickly.

While I don't have the exact numbers, I think it's safe to say that there were significantly fewer Ted planes to re-paint and re-configure than there are two entire fleets of major airlines to re-do.

I'm referring more to cabin amenities and appearance than service levels.

Agreed. They actually care about it this time.

I'm not sure caring about it is the issue -- I'm sure they cared before.

I recall there being some post-bankruptcy financing issue as well, where they were was some stipulation that they did it only during a certain check as part of their exit financing.
