UK carriers ponder Libya return With Qatar Airways announcing the launch of flights to Benghazi from November 1, British carriers BA and Bmi continue to monitor the situation before committing to the relaunch of services to Libya. Qatar Airways today announced it will fly four times-weekly to Libya’s second largest city from next month, using two-class A320 aircraft (see online news October 24). Both BA and Bmi suspended services to Tripoli back in February, with the latter being forced to cancel its flights just days after the launch of the route (see online news February 22). Bmi’s flights are currently suspended up to and including November 20. A spokesperson for the airline said that “The intention is to go back into Libya as soon as it's practical and safe to do so, so we're continuing to monitor the situation and work with the relevant authorities with a view to resuming services as soon as we can”.
