I am gong to be short 8 segments for 1K this year unless I pick up a couple of mileage runs. Any ideas for weekend travel between now and the end of this year? Thanks!

I'm doing HNL and back next weekend... RDU-SFO-HNL-IAD-RDU... hoping UA runs a close to on time operation since I'm only in SFO and HNL for about 2.5 hours each.

I think the profile says MSN. Offhand, I'd say that a couple quick
trips through Chicago will do the trick, maybe to IAD. Sadly, I
can't get matrix.itasoftware.com to behave to check out this
    guess.

A couple tips. First class gets 1.5 segment credit and may
cost only 2x the cheapest fare. I know OP says weekend
travel, but if there are no family commitments, traveling
on Thanksgiving or the day after can be cheap.

Note that as of this year for 1K qualification, a member
based in the USA has to spend to a threshold amount of
I believe 10000 USD per year.
    =
    united.com shows MSN-ORD-STL for $219 on 11/08, and this
and one similar will do the trick. Or in first, getting 6 of the
    8 segments, for $416.
    =
Another question is does the OP have time to actually
enjoy a destination, or is it going to be a pure mileage run.

I thought about posting that when I initially read the OP, but then I realized, "if someone is qualifying for 1K on segments, then they would have to spend less than $66/segment to not get 10k PQDs." Heh.

I am based out of MSN or ORD. I like that IAD idea as well as the STL trip. Thank you also for the tip on purchasing First Class as well.

The design of PQDs in UAs program is to get you to pay at least 10c/mile to 1K or to a lower status level if you don't have a CC waiver. Next year it moves up to 12c/mile.
These MRs are helpful to those with the spend (or CC waiver) but not the miles.

Being a newbie I'm a little confused. Do we get credit for segments flown with miles or only paid segments? What is a PQD?

If you have a United credit card do you automatically have a waiver?

Presidential Plus waivers are automatic. The Explorer and Club cards have CC spend requirements.
