    Hey everyone -

my first post! I am a new 1K and just got email from UAL that read :

    -----------------
With our compliments: 4 Regional Premier Upgrades are yours.

We appreciate your commitment to United, and thank you for making us your airline of choice.

To enhance your travel experience with United this year, we are offering you 4 complimentary Regional Premier® Upgrades. All you have to do is register, and you will see them in your account within 7 - 10 days.

Thank you for being one of the best customers of United and MileagePlus, and we look forward to seeing you on board soon.
    ----------------

My regional and global upgrades have been deposited in my account since late 2013, so it appears these are just extra and I am not sure the reason...

Has anyone else got these? Definitely not complaining, or trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but am curious as to why I received them...

    Cheers,
    Phil

    Very interesting.
I would be worried if this was a phishing scam.....

Don't think so, because when i registered it only asked for UAL MP# and then said i was set. I tried using my girlfriends MP# and it said she didn't qualify... also, just did again and url is clearly from united.com

It is not phishing; it is marketing. ;)

Several others on FlyerTalk are also reporting earning them. Enjoy the upgrades.

If I had to guess, it is most likely targeted to those who spent a lot on UA last year.

UA's celebrating their victory in court and giving away the Regional Upgrades they had stashed away in case of a judgement against them? :D

Would have been a nice gesture if they were sent to Million Milers.

Sounds like my assumption wasn't even close, there must be a different criteria in play here.

I'd be very curious to understand their logic behind the target.

My spend last year was about 20k with a solid 3 months of no UA (cause they were driving me nuts). I also have a lot of US flights posted to my MP account so they know I'm not sticky.

I wonder if its geography based where the new US/AA will be stronger.

Speculation on Flyertalk seems to be that crediting US flights to UA was a factor in being targeted. I had zero US flights last year. My wife had, I think, eight segments, incl. four transcons (a significant percentage of her 41k PQM), and neither of us was targeted.

Perhaps it's UA's answer to AA poaching UA elites based on their US flying :)

I looked thru FT, based on the posters' response and their location in their profile (for this offer, not the status bump offer):

    BOS x4
    WAS
    SAN
    PIT
    PHL
    Lives in US hub
    SEA
    PHX

    Location Unknown x2

Sounds like one who is based in city with a strong US presence, flies a lot with UA and credits at least several US flights to UA will have a high chance of getting this offer as those UA customers will lose the US option starting on April 1st.

I took about a dozen US flights last year & credited them to UA. I'm thinking it's either geography based or I did something to piss off the powers that be somewhere among the line.

The geography theory seems to make sense, given some of those home bases listed above.

I've revived nothing, and live in a strong US market, but UA also knows I bought tickets from them nearly every single week in 2012 and 2013.

Yes, credits from US flights likely aren't the only factor, and it would make sense to not target my SFO-based wife vs. some UA flyer with a similar flying pattern, but based in a US hub.

220,000+ PQM for me last year. I really don't care much about the RPUs & care even less about the RDMs....I want GS. :(

That Makes Sense, I'm in BOS and SNA (both US) and have had a dozen or so US flights credited to my MP...
