I removed it because there did not seem to be anyone answering my question.
If you'd like to try again (and leave the question up for a little while) we may be able to answer it.
OP, there is also a thread on this topic over in the Miles and More forum.
And you can go to the source for much of the information you're looking for.
Thanks to all of you. I will try again. I did post in FT and was directed to a thread but it did not answer my questions. So here goes.
I can only request an upgrade with paper certificate from UA on LH on the day of departure?
If on the day of departure can it be done up to 23 hours prior at the check-in counter? I would assume this is done at the check-in counter not at the gate.
Would it be better not to do OLCI for my economy seat but wait until I get to the airport and see what can be done about the upgrade?
It can only be done on the day of departure, and in my experience the upgrade is done at the gate.
In my experience, at the time you check in you will be placed on a waitlist, and (unless there are plenty of seats open) you'll get your upgrade just before boarding starts. I don't think you can get on the waitlist through OLCI, it has to be done in person. You may be given your economy boarding pass at check-in and be placed on the waitlist at the same time; however, that may vary depending on location.
Thanks Counsellor, I appreciate your answers to my queston. I also thought it would be at the gate, since if one does not get the upgrade, unless there are tons of BC available which is highly unlikely in August you need to get the certificate back so it can be redeposited in your UA account.
One of the paper certs questions I have is here: If you don't get the upgrade, how does one redeposit the paper SWU? Is it as simple as mailing it back to UA?
Yes, there is an address on the back side of the cert. it is then redeposited to your account
Thank you -
And it gets re-deposited rather quickly...
