Absolutely no surprise here. Charge more and often for everything that you offer to the public, and you'll rake in the $$$ until things change. And they eventually will, if the past industry performance is any indication of the future. "Friendly Skies" indeed!

Which airline is charging less these days??

The industry is certainly cyclical and has its ups and downs. It is on an upswing right now with pretty much every airline hitting earnings targets nicely. The growth (albeit slight) in ASMs and RPMs is also nice to see. And certainly $396mm more in passenger revenue for the quarter (~4.4% growth) is nothing to sneeze at.

I found the following interesting, even if only a small contributor to revenue:

DL also claimed increased YoY cargo. Seems that the capacity cuts from cargo-only carriers might be helping.

Does AAL break out cargo revenue by region? I wonder how much of that is from their new DFW-HKG/PVG/ICN flights allowing easy cargo connectivity to, well, lots of places.

The headline is a bit misleading... UA did not have $1.1bn of profit.

    Flight rebanking
    DEN end of Sep 14
    IAH-late this year
    ORD - March 15
    Hoping to improve summer ops
I missed but sounds like with rebanking TATL cap is going up by 40%?? I think by last Feb vs Feb 15
i.e. MSP-DEN MAINLINE only during the week from UX. 5 to 4 flights, with only a slight increase in cap (3%), but less departures.
Dropping avg daily departures in ORD 8% and seats up per departure 10%.

    85 E175 in fleet by end of 2015, pulling 31 Q400's in 15
1million profit annually per E175 for each 50seater is repalces

20% down in Q3 on "Spareparts cancelations" due to initiatives for keeping spare parts more readily available.

    Q4 Deliveries
    5x 739ER
    1x 788
    1x 789
    11x E175
I missed part but sounds like 7 788 between 2017-19 deliveries are being convereted to 78X to 2021+
11x 763 being refurb instead of retired to extend life
2x 737-700 purchased (used) to backfill 50seater retirements, thinking this will fill in on the DEN/MSP

Retiming arrival and departure banks to improve utilization and minimize risk of misconnects / operational issues.

Should also improve utilization of hubs to move people more efficiently through the system.

    Clarity on 737-700 Purchase
737 purchased from leasing company - not giving out airline
Trying to obtain narrow body, UA too reliant on 50seat RJ.
Sees the shortage of RJ pilots.
Finds used aircraft a good replacement without spending a lot of cash

    Call Done.

Basically in a hub an airline will bring in all the flights, let people connect and then dispatch all the flights. That's called a bank. For example there is the transatlantic bank where all the TATL flights leave from IAD at the same time. Banking is expensive it requires a lot of resources for only a short amount of time. But it is good for customers and reduces long connections. UA is basically tinkering with their banks and change the mix of flights in that bank. Sent from a reasonably priced car.

Isn't this what Delta does? Buy lots of used birds and just rehab them.

Sent using a small piece of fruit.
