Most devices don't have batteries that would last the whole flight.

Most of UA's flights are shorter than the battery life of at least three of my current devices.

And on most longer flights I do tend to eat/sleep/pee/wander around/read/stare/listen to music in addition to watching movies.

And if that doesn't help you, get a small external battery for $30 that charges your tablet.

Or just fly a different airline.

I can use my Samsung tablet with AA's streaming wi-fi. Wonder why UA decided not to support Android.

I have had excellent success with this IFE strategy.

    ... "at this time."

If I had to guess: iOS was ready, Android wasn't ready yet. Similar to how they haven't released the new Android mobile app yet while the iOS has been out for a while. And the website also still hasn't been updated yet with that long-promised new version.

This is the streaming video system already in place on the 772s for Hawaii and will be on the Airbus fleet, 744s and some 772s starting next month. Still not on the 737s yet.
I disagree. Most iPhones and iPads will last the whole flight just fine. And I'm willing to bet those are the predominant devices used for this service.

:) This is just what I was going to say. My 4-gen iPad battery is great, last forevers. If you battery doesn't last, time to get it replaced. Had a ton of problems with iPhone 5 battery, got a new one for 89 @ Apple store and my iPhone is again working like a champ.

Can't wait to try out this on a United flight soon :)
