United and Hawaiian will move ticketing, security and baggage claim to Las Vegas's McCarran Intl terminal 3 starting on Wednesday. But UA and HA will continue to use the D gates for arrival and departure.

So, on your next visit to LAS on UA or HA, once you arrive, turn off your auto-pilot and don't head for T1; you'll need to go to T3 for your bags.

Er, what? Isn't T3 a completely separate building? Anyone know how long the walk is from D-gates to T3 baggage claim? If there are no bags, can we still exit in T1 or are they forcing everyone over to T3?

It's a train from T3 to the D gates. And yes, I am pretty sure no one's going to stop you if you exit in T1 (taking the old train) if that's what you prefer. There are other tenants in the D pod that continue to have their baggage claims in T1.

Ah okay. Now the important question: which one has faster cabs to the strip? ;)

My past history with taxis at T1 has been so terrible that I can only hope that the addition of T3 will make both better.

Much better. No lines at all.
The train leaves every couple minutes. Really. There are two, and as soon as one leaves, the other arrives. The only annoying thing is it's still a decent walk from the station to the United Club/gates, but probably no worse than if you arrived on the other train from T1.

My hope is that the air side of T3 has some better concessions. The restaurants in T1's D area seem to close way too early... especially for a city like Vegas, and even on Sunday nights when tons of people fly back from Vegas.

Seriously. There are practically no food options for the 8pm LAS-SFO flight.

I came through LAS last night landing at D50 and they were very clear about having to go to T3 to pick up your luggage. Much shorter tram ride into brand new, clean T3. Long hike though from exit of tram to carousel 3 where UA seems to send their luggage - be prepared. If they had moving sidewalk, I would have used it ;) But bright, well organized and spacious. Took a quick look upstairs at check in area - spacious and bright - seems like a big improvement.

How long from the tram drop in T3 to the taxi line? :)

I think it's fairly short, but I had to pick up luggage. But if you're heading right for taxi from tram, should be pretty quick.

Arrived Sat morning, no line in the taxi que at T3. From the time you board the tram (trams to the terminals leave right next to each other so no time difference there). You can be at the taxi line in less than five mins easily.
