UA expert mode going away, EF ... ?

    Today United Airlines has decided to remove award and upgrade class inventory from various channels, affecting ExpertFlyer. As such, United will be removed from the list of airlines in the Award & Upgrade search tool until further notice. In addition, all Active Flight Alerts for United award or upgrade class codes will be put into the Expired state. Should the award and upgrade data become available at a later date, we will again activate those Flight Alerts.
    However, all other United data will still be available on ExpertFlyer including:
    • Detailed regular fare class inventory via the Flight Availability search tool
    • Flight Alerts for regular fare inventory classes
    • Live Seat Maps and Seat Alerts
    • Fare Information searches and all related fare data
    • Flight Status, Flight Detail, Travel Information, and all other ExpertFlyer search tools.

    They really only removed it from one channel - their website. It is really that hard to just admit you were scraping the data from there rather than pretending it was something else?

    I'm seeing inconsistent results from EF's flight availability now.

    UA has some G fare availability that matrix.itasoftware.com shows, but some of it was not bookable, when I checked on united.com. There was G availability for Sept 9, OGG-LAX-SFO for $160 all-in on united.com, but EF shows G0 for all flights. Not sure how EF is displaying availability but it's not showing the same thing as other channels and certainly not showing everything.

    I don't have a KVS sub, so I am unable to compare their results.

    Hang in there, they usually resolve this stuff eventually.

    If not, you can ask for a pro-rated refund.

    David, this is not the proper thread for this question as regular fare class availability has not been affected at all. If the G fare wasn't bookable, then G0 would seem to be the correct response. ExpertFlyer shows real time inventory whereas ITA can show cached inventory, also married segment logic will come into play. If you need further help please email us.

    Thank you, I've seen the update from UA Insider.

    EF hasn't provided a workaround, right? KVS has. I don't subscribe to KVS, I pay an EF subscription fee primarily because they provide UA award and upgrade availability and alerts.

    I figured they would say something in a few days after others figured out a workaround ...

    Hi David. The fix for upgrade inventory was competed on Friday and is currently in testing. We hope to release it on Monday or Tuesday morning. Restoral of Award inventory will be coming shortly after that. Thank you for your patience.

    We’re happy to inform you that United Upgrade searching and alerting (R and ON classes) has been restored in ExpertFlyer.
    • The Award & Upgrade search now shows United as an airline with R and ON classes as options. A Quantity must be specified in the search and the results will show if that amount of inventory is available on a flight (Yes or No).
    • All future dated Flight Alerts for R, RN or ON classes have been reactivated (R and RN classes have the same inventory and will be treated as the same class).
    • All Saved Queries for R, RN or ON will now work again. A Quantity of 1 will be assumed for Saved Queries that did not specify one. The Saved Query can be edited to change the quantity.
    If you encounter any issues please email us at customercare@expertflyer.com and let us know. We plan on restoring United Award searching next, thank you for your patience.

    We're happy to inform you that United Award searching and alerting (O,I,X,FN,ZN,HN classes) has been restored in ExpertFlyer.
    • A Quantity must be specified in the search and the results will show if that amount of inventory is available on a flight (Yes or No).
    • All future dated Flight Alerts for these classes have been reactivated.
    • All Saved Queries for these classes will now work again. A Quantity of 1 will be assumed for Saved Queries that did not specify one.
    If you encounter any issues, please let us know. We are also working to restore numerical/elite UA search functionality. Thank you for your support.

    Note: We are aware of a bug that may return an error when searching for an award after clicking on Refine Query. We will push out a fix tomorrow.
