    [article]

United Airlines dismissed a former congressman’s complaint Thursday as he went on a Twitter rampage about how he was switched to the back of a flight from first class.

Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) first tweeted Thursday afternoon at United, saying “miserable service again” on his flight from San Francisco.

Frist said he was sent from first class to a seat in the very last row of the plane next to a bathroom “that’s in heavy rotation.”

It's great that despite the addition of PQD, UA actively dismisses someone who could afford a private jet* and appears to have paid for domestic F.

    * Frist's dad founded HCA, his brother is worth $5 billion, and there's a reason the major museum by my home in Nashville is the "Frist Center for the Visual Arts".

Was there an operational change of equipment on his flight?

Nope. And @United didn't even do the normal "we're sorry for your problem, send us your flight information".

United's cavalier attitude toward passengers seems to be getting more extreme . . . they apparently now seem to feel they don't have to provide the class of service they sell. I don't see any offer to return the extra money.

Question, though -- it appears he was Tweeting from in flight. Are you allowed to do that these days?

Why not? If there's wifi then they can tweet all they want.

As much as I like to criticize UA it feels like there may be more to the story here. If he was confirmed in F and there was no equipment change, even I would find it hard to believe UA wouldn't know that and have offered an apology.

My absolute WAG, based upon Frist's last comment on the issue, was that he was FAM'ed out of F. Hence the "explanation" and "help" after the fact, where "help" could be generous downgrade compensation with no "explanation" permissible in-flight.

That seems a bit better than WAG.

Maybe it will prompt a second look at the FAM program.

Wouldn't that require the FAMming of a current (not former) senator, probably one from the majority party?

I don't think even that would do it. I sure as hell hope it wouldn't, anyway.

Does anyone know when he showed up at the gate? We hold pretty hard to the 15 minute rule of "giving" away your seat.
