VANCOUVER — Flying and liquor don't mix.

That's what a pair of Ontario men learned Monday when an Air Canada flight they were on from Toronto to Beijing had to make a landing at Vancouver International Airport after they became drunk and unruly, Richmond RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said today in a press release.

My fiancee's mother was on that flight.

My father who flew to PEK from YYZ on oct 31 this year also experienced similar disruptions and was diverted to Vancouver. :(

They should have been sentenced to cover AC's cost and reasonable compensation for each passenger on this flight (and potentially the return flight this aircraft couldn't operate as scheduled).

I always see references to the RCMP and think of them on horses. Wouldn't it be awesome to see them board the aircraft on a horse to make the arrest?

It would be awesome, but they'd better be on a really small horse. :D

Remember this is YVR RCMP and their greeting on at least one occasion has been much more shocking.

since i work for a high profile employer, i will know to keep my drinking to myself in the future and know that not only does this cause me issues, but my employer...no flying on AC for a year during probation, I am not sure this is hardly punishment...:D

Maybe if their people would lay off the sauce, RIM might have something to compete with Android and IPhone handsets. :p

does anyone take issue with a company that purports to suggest that "at all times" you can not act in a way that impacts on them? i mean if the persons were not on a company trip and the same thing took place, what business of it is this to your employer? this company seems to suggest it "IS" their business. i laugh at that and would just really chalk up more in the severance amount for such fiction.

Only if you were flying to a meeting and you missed the meeting because you were arrested drunk on the job......the company probably paid for the fare....and you were being paid for your time including travel.

agreed. my point is the company's comments seem to go way overboard.

“RIM does not condone behaviour that conflicts with applicable laws and employees are expected to act, at all times, with integrity and respect,”

all times seems to mean whether it is on the clock or not. perhaps i am not reading this right.

that is how i read it....

Long story short, with LinkedIn, Facebook, Google and traditional investigative journalism, it doesnt take much to find out where the people work, once their names been published.....

that is why companies always expects their employees to be sensible in case........
